THINGS TO SEE & DO

Dallas Arts District
Here you'll find many of the city's main cultural attractions -- including the Dallas Museum of Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center and the Meyerson Symphony Center -- along with numerous restaurants. The Dallas Arts District beckons to lovers of art and architecture, but in truth any traveler could easily spend at least a day exploring the cultural gems in this neighborhood.

Sixth Floor Museum
On November 22, 1963, shots from Lee Harvey Oswald's gun echoed through Dealey Plaza as President John F. Kennedy's motorcade turned off of Houston Street onto Elm. This tragic day in United States history has been immortalized on the sixth floor of the former Texas School Book Depository -- where Oswald pulled the trigger almost 50 years ago -- in a moving tribute to JFK's life and legacy. According to many, one of the most fascinating exhibits is a recreation of Oswald's set-up at the southeast window. Round out your trip to the Sixth Floor Museum with a stroll around historic Dealey Plaza, located several blocks from the West End DART station.

Cowboys Stadium
If there's one thing the people of Dallas and Fort Worth love, it's football. So a stop by the home of the Dallas Cowboys, Cowboys Stadium, is necessary for a true glimpse into the area's culture. The Cowboys' former kingdom in Irving was demolished in 2009 to make way for a bigger, better venue. Now you can visit "America's Team" in their new digs (the largest domed stadium in the country with capacity for 80,000 screaming fans), located in Arlington and approximately halfway between Dallas and Fort Worth. Be sure to stop by even if it isn't sheepskin season; most agree just a tour of Cowboys country is worthwhile.

Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District
The Fort Worth Stockyards is the history book of the livestock industry in Texas. Each chapter is represented by the original bricks and mortar, the wood corrals, the men, and the music that are all still a part of the the Stockyards today. This living museum represents Fort Worth in its heyday, featuring daily cattle drives, numerous Wild West shops and plenty of places to eat. Kids will especially love a twirl through the Cowtown Cattlepen Maze or a ride on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad. Spend a few hours in the Wild at the Stockyards Museum. Make time to see some real cowboys in action at the Stockyards Championship Rodeo, held every Friday and Saturday night in the Cowtown Coliseum.

Billy Bob’s Texas
Those in the know insist a visit to Fort Worth wouldn't be complete without a heel-stomping good time at Billy Bob's Texas, the world's largest honky-tonk. Occupying some prime real-estate in the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District, this three-acre entertainment center is home to 40 separate bar stations, not to mention an arcade, a bull-riding ring and a Texas-sized dance floor lit by a disco ball-esque rhinestone saddle. Forget your cowboy hat? Just pick one up at the on-site Western store!

McKinney Avenue Trolley
For more authentic (and lest costly) means of transportation, hop aboard the McKinney Avenue Trolley, an old-fashioned electric streetcar that meanders from Dallas' West End to the bustling McKinney Avenue several miles north. With stops at several popular attractions -- including the Dallas World Aquarium, the Dallas Museum of Art and the McKinney Avenue Antique Market -- the McKinney Avenue Trolley is a unique way to experience the Big D.

Southfork Ranch
No visit to Dallas is complete without visiting the legendary Southfork Ranch. For thirteen years, television sets were tuned into 356 episodes of "Dallas", one of the longest running series in television history. Viewers made themselves home at Southfork, the Texas ranch the Ewings called home and where the entire world was a weekly guest. Today, Southfork continues to welcome visitors from around the world, who come to see where "Dallas" was filmed and to experience the lifestyle made famous by the Ewings. Set on 300+ acres of groomed Texas ranchland, Southfork Ranch welcomes tours and guests in unique southwestern style!
