THINGS TO SEE & DO
Joshua Tree National Park
Joshua Tree National Park encompasses 800,000 spectacular acres of the Mojave and Colorado Deserts in the Southern California Desert. Named for the distinctive Joshua Tree, a tall-growing variety of the yucca genus that grows prevalently within its boundaries, the two deserts unite two distinct large ecosystems within its boundaries: the arid Colorado Desert below 3,000 feet with natural gardens of creosote bush, ocotillo, and cholla cactus; and the higher, moister, and slightly cooler Mojave Desert which is the special habitat of the Joshua tree. Park highlights include Hidden Valley, with a short trail leading through boulders to an old cattle rustler’s hideout; Barker Dam which was originally built in the early 1900s to hold water for cattle and mining use; and numerous overlooks for watching magnificent sunsets and on a rare clear day, a view over the Salton Sea all the way to Mexico!
Palm Springs Shopping
World famous as the Rodeo Drive of the Desert, Palm Desert's El Paseo Shopping District is a beautifully maintained picture-postcard floral and statue-filled mile. El Paseo is truly a shopper's paradise where you'll find over 300 discoveries including enchanting shops and boutiques featuring the latest designer fashions, jewelry, award winning restaurants, antiques, beauty salons, spas, art galleries and more. The River at Rancho Mirage is more than simply a shopping and entertainment center – it’s a destination. The River provides a park-like waterfront with an entertainment amphitheater, live music, fountains and cascading waterfalls among its many shops and restaurants – it’s a fabulous environment of style and beauty, providing a place to spend the day and enjoy the evening!
Palm Springs Golf
Palm Springs has been blurring the line between fantasy and reality for decades as one of the signature golf destinations in the western United States. Gorgeous vistas and towering mountains form an eye catching backdrop that will tantalize the eye that should be following the path of a well hit drive. A natural golf destination, Palm Springs is a literal patchwork of greens, fairways, and tall grass. Courses are expertly maintained, which is done primarily through magic (it’s the only explanation how the golf courses stay so green with only 5.2 inches of rain a year). With more than 100 courses to choose from, saying that this is truly a golf enthusiast’s dream-come-true would be an understatement!
Cabot’s Pueblo Museum
A top attraction in the Palm Springs area, Cabot’s Pueblo Museum is a Hopi-inspired pueblo created from reclaimed and found objects gathered throughout the desert by a homesteader named Cabot Yerxa – from as far east as the Salton Sea, north to Morongo Valley, south to Palm Springs and west to Whitewater. The structure is hand-made, and stands four-stories high. It’s 5,000 square feet and includes 35 rooms, 150 windows and 65 doors. Some of the unique features are windows and doors collected and reassembled from abandoned homesteads, old telephone poles, buck board wagon parts and many other materials used creatively.
