OFF-RESORT-BASED ACTIVITIES (At Additional Charge)
There is a wealth of excursions you can take to get to know the “real” Costa Rica… if you want to.
Manuel Antonio National Park
A visit to famed Manuel Antonio National Park is an absolute MUST. The most celebrated natural zone in Costa Rica and the area’s main tourist attraction, the Park is ribboned by white sand beaches and is home to a vast array of wildlife including white-face, howler and titi monkeys, sloths and giant iguanas. Toucans, Parrots, Mot Mots and a host of other tropical birds paint the forest in brilliant hues as the cacophony of jungle voices will seduce you into a state of nature-inspired wonder. Take a guided tour which includes a non-strenuous hike appropriate for all ages. Upon completion of the guided segment, guests can stay to enjoy the beautiful beaches.
Surf’s Up
When Robert August filmed a segment about Tamarindo in his Endless Summer II movie, Tamarindo became internationally famous for its surfing. And for good reason: There are no less than five world-class surf breaks within driving distance of the center of town. These include: Playa Grande, Playa Avellanas, Playa Negra, Playa Langosta, and of course, Tamarindo itself.
Zip-A-Dee
For a bird’s eye view of the jungle below, consider taking a tour through the (tree) canopy of the tropical rainforest. You’ll hang like a monkey, but that’s ok. You’ll hopefully be seeing a real one or two.. just remember to keep you eyes open as you glide along on this unforgettable adventure activity!
Aerial Tramway
If you’re less adventurous but still want to see the wonders of the rainforest, you can take an aerial tram tour. You’ll glide above the rainforest for an unforgettable view as you soar 100-feet above the jungle floor. The diversity of plants and animals such as tree frogs, vine snakes, sloths and hundreds of species of birds will truly take your breath away.
Goodness Gracious, Great Balls of Fire
If you have the chance, make sure you take a tour to the Northern Volcano Zone. The “Parque Nacional Volcano Arenal” is named for its main attraction, the Arenal Volcano which, with its cloud-covered crater, is as dramatic from a far as it is up close and personal. You can take a guided hike through one of the most complex eco-systems on earth on extravagant trails brimming with hot springs and pristine lakes.
Bird Watching
There are over 250 species of birds at the Santa Rosa National Park, one of the largest in Costa Rica. Part of the Guanacaste Conservation Area, it protects a sizable portion of the last tropical dry forest in the world. One of the main attractions of this park is that it is the only one of its kind on the planet, where 10 distinctive habitations can be found. Deciduous forests, oak forests, mangrove swamps, littoral woodlands, evergreen forests, marshlands and savannahs cover the entire park area.
