ABOUT THE CRANE RESIDENTIAL RESORT

The Crane is one of Barbados’ premier resorts, sitting majestically atop a 70-foot cliff on the more secluded southeast side of the island, with a spectacular panoramic view over the beach and beautiful ocean waters. Built in 1887, the original hotel forms the centerpiece of a luxurious villa complex which combines 19th-century grandeur with modern-day luxury. Accommodations feature a wide range of wonderfully-appointed suites, all with fully-equipped kitchens or kitchenettes, two-person jetted spa tubs with separate shower and large patio or balcony. Dining options are plentiful, with no less than 6 restaurants and bars. A glass elevator leads to the pink-sand Crane Beach below – grab a lounge chair and umbrella; “beachside” beverages and light meals are also available for purchase. Away from the sand, there are no less than 6 outdoor pools, with a resort-signature cliff-top lap pool and marble sundeck framed by classic Doric columns. In addition, the fabulous Lagoon Pool is situated cliff-side, offering a multi-pool complex of four pools including a kid’s wading pools and a waterfall pool – note that several of the residence villas feature private pools as well.  Land-based recreation features 2 tennis courts and a fitness center. Indulge yourself in the Serenity Spa which features a full menu of treatments – you’re worth it! “The Village” houses resort-based shops – some duty free – restaurants and fitness facilities. The resort is located about 14 miles from Bridgetown – take the resort’s weekly scheduled shuttle for sightseeing and shopping (additional charge) – and 10 miles from the St. Lawrence Gap area. And if you happen to be in Barbados on a Friday evening, catch a resort shuttle (additional charge) to the fish fry in Oistens Bay Gardens – where you’ll enjoy true local “Bajan” flavor in both cuisine and live entertainment!

THINGS TO SEE & DO

About Barbados
A small island in size, Barbados might be considered “small” in size, but it’s definitely large when it comes to character!  Steeped in history, culture and tradition the island exudes a natural charm which is uniquely Bajan. Each of Barbados’ eleven parishes feature different feels and highlights – from the picturesque, limestone hills in of St. Andrew to the action packed night life in Christ Church, you’ll find something for everyone!

East Coast of Barbados
The East Coast of Barbados – and where the Crane is located – is known for its magnificent rock formations, the wide sandy beaches and of course the waves!  This coast is definitely one of many contrasts. Here you will find the large waves of Bathsheba’s “Soup Bowl” - the surfer’s paradise - just mere meters away from natural rock pools; ideal spots for swimming. Or the rugged hills of the Scotland district juxtaposed with the flat winding roads of Bath. The East Coast is an experience all on its own. Designated a Historical Site, you can be assured that the natural beauty will be preserved for years to come!

Mount Gay Brewery
If you love rum – and who doesn’t – make sure to pay a visit to the Mount Gay Brewery! Located in the center of the island, a fascinating brewery tour will show you the rum-making process while regaling you with the colorful story behind this world’s oldest rum! And of course, you’ll be able to “sample the merchandise” at the end of your tour – your appreciation for a pina colada or a rum and coke will surely be heightened after your visit!

Barbados Museum
The Barbados Museum is located in the parish of St. Michael in the Garrison Savannah area. The island's rich history and culture come to life in seven fascinating galleries, set in beautiful nineteenth-century buildings. You can explore Barbadian natural and social history, African heritage, military history, decorative arts, prints and paintings. This is a great place to get a feel for Barbados, it's diversity of culture and to learn about its rich heritage.

Flower Forest
Located at the site of the old Richmond sugar plantation in the parish of St. Joseph, the Flower Forest is on the edge of the east coast Scotland District and commands spectacular views of this area and is one of the most scenic parts of Barbados. There are numerous imported plants and trees with a lovely palm collection, which provides some much-needed shade and is an ideal place for a picnic. There is also a bar and restaurant that opens out on to the forest.

Cricket
Cricket is to Barbados what baseball is to the USA - Cricket has been the national pastime of Barbados almost from the beginning of this country's history, having been introduced to the island by the early English settlers. It’s played in the village streets with homemade bats and taped tennis balls or on one of the many cricket grounds around Barbados. The most famous cricket ground is Kensington Oval, less than a mile from the heart of Bridgetown, the island’s capital. This historic and centuries-old home to international cricket was transformed and restored into an ultra modern stadium for the hosting of Cricket for World Cup 2007!
