Santa Fe
Welcome to Santa Fe, one of the most special places in the “Land of Enchantment! Nestled in the foothills of the Rockies – in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, at an elevation of 7,000-ft – you’ll find an amazing destination brimming with the influences of her storied Spanish and Mexican past. The city is known for “everything Southwestern” – superb restaurants with Southwestern fare and modern-day cuisine, chic art galleries, fabulous and diverse shopping, and spectacular surrounding scenery. Culture begins with a capital “C” – with Santa Fe's world-famous art galleries, art markets (open year round) and fascinating museums housing traditional and contemporary art, including works by native daughter Georgia O’Keefe. The Santa Fe Plaza is, and has been, the heart of downtown Santa Fe for nearly 400 years, and remains the central part of the city, hosting Indian and Spanish markets and other annual events as well as community gatherings, concerts and more.

Santa Fe Indian Market
A visit to the Santa Fe Indian Market is truly an experience! Taking place during the third week in August, the Santa Fe Indian Market is unrivaled in both size and prestige, with over 600 booths featuring works of over 1,000 artists and flooded by over 100,000 collectors! A tradition which began in the early 1920’s, it’s held on the Santa Fe Plaza and has grown into the world’s largest market of Native American art featuring jewelry, textiles, baskets, pottery, silver work, bead work, quill work, pueblo wooden carvings, sculpture, drums, hides, leather goods, paintings and more. If you can make it here during this time, it will be unforgettable. And if you can’t, don’t worry – there are so many year-round galleries and art markets with eager artists and artisans who can’t wait to share their passions and works of art with you!

Santa Fe Museums
If you like museums, you’ve come to the right place! Santa Fe has a museum for just about everyone, where tots through teens and beyond can experience a rich blend of history arts and cultural heritages which make this city and part of the country so unique. Modern art lovers will enjoy the impressive collections of works by early Santa Fe and Taos artists at the New Mexico Museum of Art. And on the other end of the spectrum, the Palace of the Governors – the country’s oldest continuously occupied building – is the site of the New Mexico Museum of History which bring the past to life with fascinating collections and exhibitions highlighting the area’s rich history through the Spanish Colonial, Mexican, Territorial and Statehood eras. A highlight of the Georgia O’Keefe Museum is the hands-on activity program especially geared to the “younger set” of art aficionados! TripAlertz TIP: There’s a New Mexico Museums Pass which you can purchase (currently $20), giving you unlimited access to four of Santa Fe’s most popular museums: New Mexico Museum of Art, New Mexico History Museum, Museum of International Folk Art and Museum of Indian Arts and Culture

Indian Pueblos
There’s no better way to learn about Native America’s heritage than a visit to a pueblo – a term used to describe modern (and ancient) communities of Native Americans in the Southwest US. The Eight Northern Indian Pueblos lie between Santa Fe and the state of Colorado and the majestic mountain landscape – five of these eight are within 30 miles of the city. They are centers of art and artists; some also operate casinos. A visit to at least one is “a must” when visiting the area!
