THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN THE STOWE, VERMONT AREA
Stowe, VT is legendary! It’s the quintessential Vermont village, with an old-fashioned main street dotted with countless shops, galleries and restaurants, white clapboard church with a tapered spire and a wonderful vibe no matter what time of year you visit. The view are breathtaking – with a character reminiscent of a great European mountain resort… one of the things which brought the Von Trapp family (chronicled in the Sound of Music) to this beautiful part of New England. Outside of the town center, you’ll find a network of roads leading up to Mount Mansfield – the area’s highest peak – and the ski areas, dotted with countless numbers of inns and motels, restaurants, shops, spas and local attractions. There’s a unique 5.5 mile Recreation Path which leads from village up towards the mountains – ideal for hikers, walkers and cyclists in the warmer months, and groomed for winter recreational activities during the winter. Speaking of skiing, the major ski areas for downhill and snowboarding are the Stowe Mountain Resort – made up of Mt. Mansfield and Spruce Peak – and Bolton Valley, Burke, Sugarbush and Jay Peak. The area is also known for having hundreds of miles of groomed trails for cross-country and back-country skiing.
Burlington is one of the best towns to visit, any time of year! An epicenter of outdoor activity and urban delight, if you have the passion for all things outdoors, an interest in the arts, like to browse small boutiques, enjoy a great meal or just walk around, Burlington fits the bill. Named “The Perfect Small City” by National Geographic Traveler and home to the University of Vermont (UVM), there’s a special energy and great vibe in and around Burlington. You’ll find a dizzying array of restaurants, elegant theaters, hip coffee shops and fabulous micro-pubs where you can sip some of the best local brews you’ll ever taste. After the sun goes down, Burlington turns into a live music hotspot where you can soak in some amazing tunes, and watch the world go by – or hit the dance floor. And as it lies on Lake Champlain (America’s “Sixth Great Lake”), you’ll find tons of on-the-water fun including boating, sailing, swimming and water-skiing during the warmer months.
Ben & Jerry’s Factory Tour
Make sure to visit one of the happiest places in Vermont! Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream factory is nestled on a rolling hillside about 10 miles south of Stowe, and provides an unforgettable – and delicious – look at the production of some of the world’s favorite ice cream. The guided factory tours are fun and educational for “kids” of all ages, providing insights into this frozen treat’s production process. And best of all, everyone gets to sample “the flavor of the day” at the tour’s end. If you’re craving more – and who isn’t – stop by the wonderful “Scoop Shop” where tons of flavors are available for purchase…after all, one can never have enough ice-cream!
Vermont is home to some fabulous craft breweries and several can be found in the Burlington area. Many give guided tours with sample tastings at the end – Magic Hat being of the better known brands!
