Grand Canyon National Park
Vast, magnificent and inarguably beautiful, the Grand Canyon is easily Arizona’s most distinguishable landmark – and a natural wonder that you simply have to see to believe. Stretching 277 miles from end to end, steep, rocky walls descend more than a mile to the canyon’s floor, where the wild Colorado River traces a swift course southwest. You can reach Grand Canyon National Park from main entrances on the South Rim – including the South Rim’s eastern entrance – and the North Rim. The Canyon's western edge, home to beautiful Havasupai Falls and the town of Supai, is also accessible via roads on the Hualapai Indian Reservation. Visitors from Flagstaff usually drive up to the South Rim entrance – the South Rim offers a variety of museums and information centers with exhibits and park information on the best way to spend your time. If you want to try the “Skywalk” – the transparent glass bridge suspended about 70 feet into and 4,000-ft over the Grand Canyon – you’ll have to head to the Grand Canyon West area, about a 4-hour drive from the South Rim area.

Wupatki National Monument
Situated in the rain shadow of Arizona's San Francisco Peaks, Wupatki National Monument was once home to prehistoric Anasazi and Sinagua farmers and traders -- the Hisatsinom, as their Hopi descendants call them. Today, this 54 square miles of the Monument preserves many free-standing masonry pueblos, field houses, rock art, pottery, baskets and tools -- extraordinary evidence of a varied and complex lifestyle. Altogether, more than 2,700 archeological sites have been cataloged at Wupatki National Monument. It’s about a 40-mile drive from Flagstaff, and (literally) on one of the roads north towards the Grand Canyon.

Make sure to make drive south to beautiful Sedona, AZ – home of the “Red Rocks”. The rocks are big, and they are red – absolutely majestic whether you drive or hike in and around the area. Cathedral Rock is aptly named due to its many variegated spires, and towers 1,200 feet over the town – you can grab a breathtaking view from the Village of Old Creek which is part of the Sedona area. Bell Rock boasts a distinctive shape, right out of your favorite Western movie. Courthouse Butte, near to Bell Rock seems to catch on fire when the day winds down to sunset. The Chapel of the Holy Cross rises between two red-rock peaks with a huge white cross on the building’s façade. The view or the town and surrounding area from up top are absolutely spectacular. Back in town, make sure to stop by the world-famous Tlaquepaque (pronounced Tla-keh-pah-keh) Arts & Crafts Village. Nestled on the banks of beautifulOak   Creek,Tlaquepaque is fashioned after an authentic Mexican village with vine-covered stucco walls, cobble-stoned walkways and impressive arched entryways. The name means “best of everything” and it truly is. Originally created as an artists’ community, today it’s a shopper’s paradise with unique shops, boutiques, restaurants and art galleries living in harmony with towering trees and beautiful natural surroundings.

Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument
Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument is located in an area approximately 15 miles northeast of Flagstaff and contains several colorful cinder cones formed by extinct volcanoes. You’ll see large expanses of lava and ash, mostly unobscured by vegetation and still pure black in color. The dominant peak is Sunset Crater. The contrasting colors of the cinders provide the most unusual aspect of the national monument but the jagged and twisted lava fields are also quite spectacular. Sunset and the neighboring craters are just one small part of the San Francisco volcanic field, an extensive region of nearly 2,000 square miles that contains some 600 identified volcanoes.

Montezuma’s Castle National Monument
Nestled into a limestone recess high above the flood plain of Beaver Creek in the Verde Valley, stands one of the best preserved and most easily accessible cliff ruins in North America. This 5-story, 20-room cliff dwelling served as a "high-rise apartment building" for prehistoric Sinagua Indians more than 600 years ago. Early settlers to the area assumed that the imposing structure was connected to the Aztec emperor Montezuma, but this "castle" was actually abandoned almost a century before Montezuma was born. Montezuma Castle, comprising 840 acres, is located approximately within the town of Camp Verde, 50 miles south of Flagstaff.
