THINGS TO SEE & DO
The Manzanillo Resort Area
This lovely resort town is located along the central Pacific Coast of Mexico overlooking the twin bays of Manzanillo and Santiago. The diverse landscape of the region surrounding Manzanillo offers numerous opportunities for the adventure sports enthusiast. Combining ecotourism with adventure travel is of the most popular Manzanillo activities and adventure tours throughout the area’s vast natural landscapes are sure to get your adrenaline pumping. Cuyutian is one of the best places in Mexico for surfing enthusiasts. If you like deep sea fishing, Manzanillo is the sports fishing capital of the world. And the old town with its historic center is a wonderful place for exploration, shopping and dining on local delicacies.
The historic center of Manzanillo was recently refurbished adding to the appeal of this already charming seaside town. Buildings throughout the city center have been renovated and painted white, and several pedestrian-only streets make it a pleasant area to explore on foot. A giant turquoise sculpture of a Marlin is situated on the edge of the historic center overlooking the ocean. After dark, dancing fountains entertain the crowds that gather in the historic center. Take your time strolling along the beautiful waterfront promenade (Malecon) past small fishing boats and sculptures by local artists. Manzanillo’s waterfront promenade extends for one mile along the coast. Grab a seat on one of the benches and people watch while enjoying views of the picturesque bay, or pose for photos against the beautiful backdrop of the Pacific. For many, a visit to the local Mercado (market) is a favorite Manzanillo attraction where you’re sure to have the authentic Mexican market experience as you browse stall after colorful stall piled high with fresh produce and seafood. You’ll also find a variety of locally-produced crafts and folk art including hammocks, coconut figurines, pottery, leather goods and hand-made jewelry.
Barra de Navidad
The small town of Barra de Navidad offers a unique charm where the rich Mexican culture meets the sea. “Barra” as it’s often referred to by “the locals” is a small beach town with a serene setting offering the ultimate in privacy and tranquility. It features beautiful unspoiled beaches, fabulous restaurants and shade covered streets with many restaurants along its sidewalks, as well as several little beach bars – best of all, it’s only a short water taxi ride away from the resort!
Volcano de Fuego
Also knows as Colima Volcano, this is one of the most active volcanoes in North America. The antennas on adjacent inactive summit cone (Nevado de Colima) provide spectacular views of the summit crater. Well worth the two hour trip from Manzanillo to the base of the mountains.
